The winning entries will be announced on our blog, Twitter and Facebook as well as other social media platforms – an excellent way to generate online exposure and increase traffic to your website! So if you’re an aspiring freelance photographer looking for a foot up into the industry, what are you waiting for?

This is the second of our regular bi-monthly photography competitions, and the theme this time is “Colour” (thanks Ashley for the suggestion); interpret it however you like!

Colour” Photography Competition Judges

Kevin-MeredithWe’re pleased to announce that Brighton-based photographer, teacher and writer Kevin Meredith and fellow Brighton-based photographer / Wired Sussex‘s Community Manager Andy Keetch will be the two judges for this photography competition.

Kevin Meredith – also known to his Twitter and Flickr friends as “lomokev” – is a successful photographer, teacher, writer and author of Hot Shots, the best selling instructional photographic book. He spoke at the PDN Photographers Virtual Trade Show in 2009 with moo.com on how to promote your self online. He also speaks regularly about photography, his work, social media and the use of film in the digital age. Kevin’s work has featured in a range of publications including Photo Pro Magazine, DSLR user magazine, Olympus User Magazine, Russian Esquire, Sonntagszeitung, and the BBC news website. Andy Keetch is well-known to many in and around Brighton under his “special noodles” alias. He’s a passionate photographer with regular updates to his Flickr account. In addition, Andy is Community Manager at Wired Sussex, where he actively networks and meets with those in the area’s Digital Media industry. Colour” Photography Competition Prizes

andrew-hasson-photographerThe photographer of the winning image will receive a free place on a Freelance Photojournalism Course in Brighton this December, run in partnership with ‘Brighton Journalist Works’ – the journalism training company based at The Argus, Brighton’s regional daily newspaper, and University of Sussex. The tutor, Andrew Hasson, is a professional freelance photographer with more than 25 years experience. His images are used in The Times, The Guardian and every other national newspaper, as well as magazines as diverse as Country Life and Take a Break. He has worked with the BBC, Channel 4 and Five, producing publicity pictures for listings, magazines and DVD covers. All entrants are also invited to attend a taster free journalism workshop in Brighton.

canvass printOur second prize winner will receive a free canvas print from Identity Signage and Printing (normally £69!), measuring 24″ x 18″: simply the perfect canvas, setting a bench mark for quality and service. How to Enter the Photography Competition

  1. If you have a Flickr account you can add your photo directly to the competition’s Flickr group.
  2. You can email your entries to photocomp@siliconbeachtraining.co.uk with “Colour” as the subject of the email. Attachments should be no larger than 3MB.
  3. For email entries: the file name should state the title of the image and the photographer, e.g. Heather Buckley’s image above could be named as “brighton-fringe-heather-buckley“, and the email message should also state the photographer’s full name.
  4. A maximum of two photograph entries per entrant will be accepted.

When is the Photography Competition Closing Date?

The deadline is Friday 16th July 5pm.
