How to Link LinkedIn with Twitter

twitter-linkedinAs has been widely reported across various social media blogs today, including Mashable, you can now link your LinkedIn profile to Twitter. If you need to know more about using Social Media for your business you may be interested in our one day Social Media Training course.

This allows you to display your current LinkedIn status as a tweet, or do it the other way round, and have your most recent tweet appear as your LinkedIn status.

Confused…?

Here’s our guide on how to set it all up.

1. Log in to your LinkedIn account, and hit “Edit Profile”.

Look! There’s a NEW Twitter section. Hit the Add Twitter account

2. A new window will open up asking to authorise your Twitter account to let LinkedIn access it (if you’re not already signed in to Twitter do it now!

Hit “Allow”

3. You should now get a message informing you that you’ve added Twitter to your profile, and you’ll be able to set your settings:

You’ ve got two options – you can either have all of your tweets display as your LinkedIn status – or only those that include the #in hashtag. Personally, I’d choose the latter, as not everything you tweet about is going to make sense as your LinkedIn status, especially if you have a lot of conversations (e.g. “@mum yes I’d love to come for lunch on Sunday” isn’t going to be of interest to your business associates!).

So – now whenever you tweet something with the #in tag in it, your status on LinkedIn will update accordingly – lahvley!

What if you want to do it the other way round? You want to change your status on LinkedIn and send a tweet about it too?

Hit “Home” in your LinkedIn account and you’ll see the Network Updates screen. You’ll notice there’s now a Twitter box underneath the status field:

All you need to do is check the Twitter checkbox and your new status will magically appear on Twitter. If you’ve linked to more than one Twitter account you can select which one you want to update from the drop-down list next to the button.

That’s it. Happy Twittering and LinkedIning(?!)
