There are so many Social Media platforms out there now that it’s hard to keep on top of all of your accounts. You’ve just got used to regularly updating Twitter and Facebook and along comes Google Buzz and everyone tells you that you MUST have a Buzz feed!
Luckily, you can link Google Buzz to Twitter and Facebook.
Google Buzz is competing with these other social networking sites, so they don’t make it easy to integrate them! However, there’s a way to link Buzz with Twitter and Facebook using Gadgets in GMail.
Here’s our simple step by step guide on how to do it…
This guide covers how to use GMail Gadgets so you’re able to access your Twitter and Facebook accounts alongside Google Buzz. It’s not what you’d call true integration – but it works!
1) We’re assuming you’ve already got GMail and Buzz! So log in to your GMail account
2) Look at the very top of the page and select “Settings” from the main menu:
![]()
3) From the settings page, click on the “Labs” tab:
4) Scroll right down to the bottom of the page and enable the “Add any gadget by URL” gadget and hit Save Changes:
![]()
5) Scroll back to the top and select the “Gadgets” tab:
![]()
6) You’ll now see the “Add a Gadget by URL” box. First we’re going to link Twitter to Buzz using the twittergadget, so paste https://twittergadget.appspot.com/gadget-gmail.xml in to the “Add a Gadget by URL” box:
![]()
7) Now add the Facebook gadget in the same way. Paste http://www.francesco-castaldo.com/fb-gadget/gBook.xml in to the “Add a Gadget by URL” box
There are a number of gadgets out there – but this is the only one for Facebook we tested that worked well!
8) You’ll now see the two Gadgets appearing in the left hand pane of GMail. You’ll need to authenticate your accounts before they will work. To start with, your Twitter gadget will look like this:
![]()
Click where is says “click here” (obviously) and a new window will open where you can authenticate your Twitter account. Once you’ve done it, the box will look like this:
Hurrah! You can now update your Twitter status whilst you’re inside Google Buzz. If you want more functionality hit the “Twitter >>” button at the top of the box and the full screen interface will open out like this (click on image for larger version):
The Facebook gadget isn’t as fancy – just click on the “Facebook >>” button in the box to open up your Facebook account within GMail and navigate it as normal:
That’s it! Happy Buzzing, Tweeting and Facebooking (?!)
