£1000 Training Grants

Training Grants are limited – application forms below…

Businesses who employ between 2 and 249 people can apply for up to £1,000 of matched funding towards any training courses that will help to develop their organisation’s people management skills. The new Leadership and Management Advisory Service (LMAS) is designed to help eligible employers  fund training and development opportunities for their senior leaders.

This funding can be used towards a range of  Silicon Beach Training’s courses, including our Management Training and Leadership Training courses, as well as other personal development programmes like our  Appraisals Training and Change Management Training courses.

Is my Organisation Eligible for a Leadership & Management Training Grant?

The Leadership & Management Training Grants are open to any organisation which:

• has 2 to 249 full time equivalent employees
• can display the potential for high or fast growth, defined as:
  • if trading for more than 12 months have the potential to increase turnover by 20% each year for three years
  • if trading for less than 12 months have the potential to achieve a turnover of £500,000 within three years of trading

How Can I Apply for a Training Grant Towards a Course at Silicon Beach Training?

1) Identify Suitable Training

Identify the training course or courses that you would like to attend – remember, the courses must help you to increase your organisation’s people management skills – so the following courses would be applicable:

• Management Skills for New Managers Training
• Leadership Skills Training
• Appraisals Training
• Change Management Training
• Plus a wide range of other training courses – please call or e-mail us to discuss your requirements in more detail
• In addition to our public scheduled courses you can also use the grants towards private or bespoke training

If you have not yet identified a suitable training course, a skills broker will be able to provide you with free advice

2) HOW TO APPLY: Organisations in the South East & South West

If your company is based in the South East or South West, you should apply for funding via Skills South East – to do this…

• Download the Application Form
• Complete the details, including the Silicon Beach Training course (or courses) you would like to attend in the “If training has already been identified” section
• Once completed return to info@skillssoutheast.co.uk with “Leadership & Management application” and your  Company/Organisation Name in the subject field

How Much Training Funding Can I Apply For?

You can apply for up to £1,000 in matched funding.

This means that you must pay the same amount towards training as your training grant covers – for example:

• If you require training worth £1,000, you must contribute £500 – with the other £500 covered by the grant
• If you require training worth £2,000, you must contribute £1,000 – with the other £1,000 covered by the grant

Jennifer Tarjanyi from MyTrainingManager recently attended our Blogging Training and Social Media Training courses, and we took the opportunity to catch up with her about what they are doing to help businesses in the south, and how their new MyTrainingManager service can help managers to make the most of their training budget by choosing training that is appropriate to their needs.

Interview with Jennifer Tarjanyi from MyTrainingManager…

Tell us a little about MyTrainingManager, how did it come about?

Our advisers have been out and about supporting Small Businesses for the last 5 years offering government funded support, and time and time again our clients were telling us that they wanted more long term support – anything from sourcing training to helping with appraisals or conducting staff surveys and action planning to improve motivation and morale.

This sort of thing is  in particular demand in the current economic climate for 3 reasons;

1.)    Staff aren’t moving on, they’re staying in jobs which perhaps don’t inspire them for fear of moving on into the unknown,

2.)    Employers often don’t have the funds to spend on incentivising and increasing pay, they need to look at other ways to engage their teams.

3.)    People are making cut-backs. Many small businesses can’t justify paying someone a salary to manage their Learning and Development. Our fees start from £195 pm which is more affordable.

When you are providing a “fee” service, there is a limit to the amount of time you can give. MyTrainingManager is a cost effective way in which we can help longer term.

What sort of companies come to you for assistance?

All sorts! The main thing we hear though is that owners & managers don’t have the time or the experience to dedicate to looking after their people. That’s where we come in!

What types of training are most in need for your clients, and what did they use the Leadership & Management grants towards mostly?

Leadership Training is a big one – most people are in leadership positions either through promotion or because they started their own business. Although they may know their sector or product inside out, managing people can be pretty tough, even for natural leaders, a bit of underpinning knowledge goes a long way to increase their confidence.

Social Media Training is also becoming really popular.

How soon will we know more about the next round of training funding and when will it be available?

There will be more Leadership and Management funding coming out in the next few weeks, although details will be announced shortly.

We have seen you are embracing Social Media and using it to communicate with your clients.  Why is this?

We know that people in business love to network, increasingly we have seen this going online. Our advisers have a great deal of knowledge and expertise as well as resources to share, social media allows us to do this effectively

Why do you think Social Media is becoming such an important marketing tool?

I think the way people buy is really changing. People have always “bought people” but now more so than ever, the chatty nature of social media really engages people.

Over the last few years, lots of Silicon Beach Training’s clients have taken advantage of Train to Gain’s “Leadership & Management” funding. This scheme allows business leaders and owners to gain access to up to £1,000 in funding towards training.

Unsurprisingly, many recipients have chosen to take our Leadership Training and Management Training courses in Brighton, Sussex. However the funding can be used on any courses that help business leaders to succeed, including accredited PRINCE2 Training, MSP Training and Six Sigma Training, or even creative courses like Photoshop Training or InDesign Training.

All good things have to end though, and the scheme is closing soon…

Train to Gain Funding – Deadline Dates

• Last Date for Applications: 11th February – APPLY HERE
• Last Training Grants Issued: 31st March

Am I eligible for Training Funding?

To be eligible for the leadership and management grants you must:

• Employ between 5 and 249 people
• Be from an EU country, or have lived in the EU country for 3 years or more
• Not have received Leadership & Management funding support from Train to Gain previously

Will there be any more Training Funding in future?

Very possibly! Our contact at Train to Gain informs us that there may be another scheme to replace the Leadership & Management grants – however nothing can can be confirmed at present.

THIS FUNDING STREAM IS NO LONGER AVAILABLE – DETAILS OF THE NEW LEADERSHIP & MANAGEMENT TRAINING GRANTS SCHEME FOR 2011

If your business needs training and you employ between 5-249 people you can apply for up to £1000 in government funding via a Train to Gain Leadership and Management grant from the Learning and Skills Council (LSC).

This funding will be available until the end of 2010. However there’s already been a massive take-up so APPLY NOW to make sure that you’re first in line for the opportunity.

This funding can be used towards any of Silicon Beach Training’s range of training courses, including our public training courses or bespoke training.

We’ve already put a lot of delegates through our courses via this scheme who have benefited from training they would not have otherwise had the budget for.

By May 2010, any trainer delivering LSC–funded programmes will need to have attained the PTLLS qualification regulated by Life Long Learning UK (LLUK)

PTLLS (pronounced “petals”) otherwise known as, City & Guilds 7303, stands for Preparing to Teach in the Life Long Sector – 7303 (we prefer petals!)

PTLLS will be a requirement for ANY LSC-funded training delivered by or for:

• Work based providers
• Community / adult learning providers
• Specialist colleges
• Train to Gain
• Public sector organisations
• Private employers

I’ve highlighted public sector in this list as this is where the new regulations are likely to have the biggest impact. A lot of training in the Public Sector is LSC funded, and therefore falls under the new requirements. Trainers or training organisations who have not gained the qualification by the deadline will suddently find they will not be able to tender for or win contracts. This will apply in the NHS, armed forces, police, local authorities and so on.

Alarmingly PTLLS seems to have passed under the radar with many people, and if they don’t get trained and qualified in time they will be in for a nasty suprise when the deadline hits!

The good news – Silicon Beach Training will be launching a PTLLS training course including certification in November. Watch this space!

To help businesses to fund training, Train to Gain are offering training grants of up to £1,000 for companies that employ between 5 and 249 staff.

The scheme has been running for nearly a year, and there is still some funding available; however organisations are advised to act quickly if they are interested in taking advantage.

Training Grants can be used on any of Silicon Beach Training’s courses

Silicon Beach Training works closely with Train to Gain and many of our clients have already used the funding to attend our programmes.

• Business Managers can claim a £500 grant for personal development. This amount will fund a place on Silicon Beach Training’s Management Skills for New Managers or Leadership Training courses in Brighton, Sussex.
• An additional £500 matched funding is available to fund training for any member of staff. Train to Gain will match your contribution.

• Business Owners and Managers can benefit from a £500 grant towards personal development. This will fund a free place on Silicon Beach Training’s Management Skills for New Managers or Leadership Training courses in Brighton, Sussex.
• A further £500 matched funding is available for training for any member of staff. Train to Gain will match your contribution pound-for-pound.
