Blog Post Ideas – 10 Top Tips for Blog Inspiration

Blog Post Ideas – bloggingFind inspiration for your blog posts

To keep your readers interested in your blog you need to post regularly. It’s not only important to keep your visitors coming back but is very important for improving your search engine ranking especially in Google. See our SEO Course to learn more, or if you are just setting up your blog you may be interested in our Blogging Training, WordPress Training or our Social Networking Training. If you just need some great blog post ideas read in.

Posting Regularity

Whilst it’s best to post every day, you may not have the time to post daily so try at least to post three times a week. Once a week is the barest minimum. Coming up with new ideas all the time can be tricky so I have written some Top Tips for Bloggers to give you some blog post ideas.

1. Top Tips
Top Tips always do well in the search engines, they are easy to read and fairly easy to write. People love them so they often attract lots on inbound links. See our post WordPress SEO – 10 top tips http://www.siliconbeachtraining.co.uk/blog/wordpress-10-top-tips-seo/

2. Elaborate on your lists
Once you have posted a good top ten or top five list. You have given yourself the perfect opportunity to write more detail about your list points. You can link to your fuller explanation from your original post as you write them. This could keep you going for a while.

3. Announce a new product.
Think about the reasons that your customers need a particular product and service and write about that. Does what you are offering solve a particular problem? Add your link to the product or service that you are recommending. See our post announcing a new Social Media Training course http://www.siliconbeachtraining.co.uk/blog/social-media-training/

4. Answer a Question
When you need to look something up on the internet, think about how many other people may be searching for the same information. If you are asking a question then write a blog post about it when you find the answer and think about the keywords you use to find the information and make sure they are prominent in your post so that others looking for the same information may come up with your answer in the search engines. See our post Why are managers, CEO’s and executives so afraid of social media? http://www.siliconbeachtraining.co.uk/blog/fear-of-social-media/

5. Write a review
When someone is considering buying a product often the first thing they do is type in the name of the product and the word review into Google. Think about what’s hot at the moment and write that review. If you ask for other peoples opinions – to add their comments – you may get some good content written for you. See our post what’s new in Photoshop CS3 http://www.siliconbeachtraining.co.uk/blog/whats-new-photoshop-cs5/

6. Ask an Expert
Do you someone who is an expert in something you could write about. Ask them a set of questions, you could do this by email or phone. See our post Resilience – 6 Top Tips http://www.siliconbeachtraining.co.uk/blog/resilience-6-top-tips/

7. Link Posts – Find a list of good resources and write a little review of each one.
Make sure they are really useful and if you can make the links open up in a new window to keep your visitors on your site. See our post on Facebook applications http://www.siliconbeachtraining.co.uk/blog/facebook-applications-how-to/

8. Contrast two options
Many people are making decisions right now. Should I use this or that? Do I need this product or solution or the other? Write a post contrasting two products, services or approaches that outlines the positives and negatives of each choice. See our post comparing WordPress to joomla http://www.siliconbeachtraining.co.uk/blog/joomla-vs-wordpress-compariso…

9. Start a Debate
Post two sides of an argument and then ask for opinions. Another great way to let your visitors write your content. Try to choose something that people can feel passionate about. Maybe choose something topical in the news. See http://www.siliconbeachtraining.co.uk/blog/dreamweaver-vs-wordpress/

10. Inspire others
Tell a success story, everyone enjoys these. It can be one of your own successes. Did you write a post that went international overnight? Did you win an award? If you can’t think of anything you have done recently, write about someone else’s success story, maybe a local business, artist. You could tell the business or individual that you are writing about them and ask for a quote. See http://www.siliconbeachtraining.co.uk/blog/why-women-rule-social-media/

Without inspiration, none of our blogs would exist, and certainly wouldn’t have much interest for readers. Finding inspiration much depends on the topic of your blog and how much of a niche it is in. If the topic is very restricted, then you need to be very knowledgable about the topic you are writing about, and also very enthusiastic. If the topic of your post is more of less open to your whim at the time of writing, then you can find that inspiration anywhere, however you need to make it relevant to your readers, otherwise if it is too diverse, they will disappear.

Thank you for this useful list.
Daily activity is a constant source of inspiration, but I’d add a few more ideas about what to blog about:
- explain behind-the-scenes activity of your institution, company, etc. In museums (my field) it arises great interest to explain how we prepare exhibits, restoration processes, our 2.0 project, etc.

-share and ask opinion about your Srategy Plan

-explain some failed initiative or program(it makes you just human not to always suceed, and it may enlighten others to avoid same mistakes).

-interview people of your organisation, industry, etc.

-review an interesting book of your area, make a report of an event or conference you attended

-analyze in depth some topic of your area, compare statistics, provide international perspective on a given subject.

Comment on a selection of tweets or top Twitterers, of your area (or any other social network)

Have a great blogging Year!
