Update – ITIL no longer describe their publications with a version number, such as v3, but instead simply as ITIL. Different editions will be distinguished by year, e.g. ‘ITIL 2011′. For more about this update, see ITIL website FAQs. ITIL courses at Silicon Beach Training will always cover the latest release.
With the withdrawal of the ITIL v2 qualifications we have expanded our range of ITIL training to include the ITIL v3 Intermediate courses.
If you have completed your ITIL v3 Foundation certificate and wish to take your knowledge of ITIL further there are several routes you can take with the ITIL v3 Intermediate courses to ITIL Expert and Master qualifications.
The modular approach to the V3 Intermediate certifications allow you to choose a flexible certification path, focusing on the different disciplines of ITIL that best suit your requirements. The diagram below illustrates the different modules available:
The ITIL v3 Service Lifecycle training courses offer a broad, management level focus of ITIL Practice areas:
If your business has recently upgraded to a new version of Microsoft Office you may have seen a noticeable drop off in productivity from your staff.
Versions of Office up to and including 2003 all had a relatively similar layout, with dropdown menus used to access the various functions. Users had become familiar with this layout and were comfortable with where to find the commands they needed to use.
With Office 2007 and 2010 the layout of all the Office Suite of products changed drastically with the introduction of the Ribbon. Commands are now accessed using the Ribbon, rather than the dropdown menus.
Once you know how to use it the new interface may be more intuitive, however staff that aren’t familiar with the Ribbon may have trouble finding the commands they used regularly in previous versions, leading to a drop in productivity as it takes longer to write a letter, create a presentation or spreadsheet.
To get you started here is our guide to the new Ribbon in Microsoft Office 2010.
We’ll use Word 2010 to illustrate the points but the principles are the same throughout the Office Suite of products.
There are three main components to the Ribbon
1: Tabs – each Tab relates to the core tasks you do in each of the Office Programs 2: Groups – each Group contains related commands, for example all the commands for formatting text are in the ‘Font’ group. 3: Commands – the commands allow you to carry out specific tasks like changing a font size or colour. The commands are arranged in groups.

Too many view Facebook pages as a means to connect people up with a main website, however a truly successful Facebook business page will engage on the platform where people found the business! By all means include lots of links to your website, but also engage with people in other ways. From purchase and search facilities to games and polls, there are plenty of ways to keep people on your page once they arrive. What’s more, interesting apps will help you stand out from the crowd on a social media platform where all pages look much the same.
If you’re thinking of attending PRINCE2 Training in Brighton, read these handy tips to help you perform to your best:
Read the manual! It sounds silly but you’d be surprised how many skim read the PRINCE2 manual or miss out chunks. The five-day PRINCE2 Practitioner training is very intensive, so do yourself a big favour by reading the manual right through in advance.
You can take in your PRINCE2 Practitioner manual although you can’t take in your own notes or documents. But you can put notes all over your PRINCE2 manual – this is fine! So whether it’s a process diagram or a one word memory trigger, fill the white spaces on the inside covers with notes to help you.
Familiarise your self with PBS (product breakdown structure); if you are not familiar with this you will struggle with many of the questions. If you really have difficulty interpreting the product symbols then include your own notes in your PRINCE2 manual. You need to then understand how a PBS relates to a product flow diagram. Lack of revision in this area is an easy way to lose marks.
When choosing from multiple choice answers, watch out for answers that have the word “must” or “always” in, because there are very few straight and simple answers in PRINCE2 and the examiners will try to catch you out.
If a question requires the same answer twice in a row e.g. “who would be the most suitable person for this task?”, don’t worry about choosing them twice – the questions are not related to each other at all.
Beware of common sense! The PRINCE2 exam is looking for an ideal application of its methodology in specific scenarios, not what you may well do in a real-life situation where your colleagues haven’t taken their PRINCE2 certification.
Remember your photographic ID as the invigilator won’t let you take the exam without it. If you have changed your name since you registered or took Foundation then take the appropriate paperwork.
