Assertiveness in Brief

Assertiveness is the ability to stand up for ourselves and to say how we feel when we feel we need to. It includes:

  • Being able to express your opinion and feelings.
  • Being able to say “no” without feeling guilty.
  • Being able to set your own priorities i.e. choosing how you spend your time.
  • Being able to ask for what you want.
  • Being able to take reasonable risks.
  • Being able not to assert yourself when you feel it would be better not to say anything
