Why is HTML5 Important?

HTML5 is the latest version of the web's standard markup language, and includes a range of new features, tags and functionality. These allow for more flexibility when designing for desktops, and - perhaps more importantly - provides a new standard for the development of web content and web apps for mobile.

Some of the new features in HTML5 (that were not in HTML4) include:

  • Video - developers can now embed video directly in to web pages, without using a plugin like Flash - which is not compatible with many mobile devices
  • Canvas - Allowing for the manipulation and animation of vector graphics and text - again providing functionality served by Flash without requiring a player
  • Geolocation - Allowing developers to take advantage of the hardware in smartphones

We also provide private and in-company HTML5 courses. Call +44 (0) 1273 622272 to discuss.
