Harrogate

Harrogate is a resort town, also known as ‘The English Spa’ situated on the shore of the Yorkshire Dales with a population of around 71,594 according to 2001 census. The history of the town can be traced from two main communities High Harrogate and Low Harrogate located in the Royal Forest of Knaresborough. Main attractions of the city RHS Harlow Carr gardens, the Nidderdale AONB, Yorkshire Dales national park and spa waters attracts thousands of tourists every year. Samson Fox, an engineering inventor, played a crucial role in the development of the town and was elected mayor for three years. Viking treasure hoard containing 700 coins and other items were found by two metal detectors in the year 2007 and was awarded as most significant finding in the England by the British Museum.

The development and economy of the city were greatly affected by the first and second world war. Many government offices were moved to the town centre from London for developing the city as retail, exhibition and conference centre. Harrogate International Centre is the country’s largest conference, and exhibition centre attracts around 350000 visitors every year and contributing 150 GBP to the economy of the city.

The nearest airport Leeds Bradford International Airport has situated 10 miles away from the city and is easily accessible by bus and train stations. The city has four main railway stations operated by Northern Railways and one bus station providing transport connections to the city.
