The MetOffice warn us of another 5 days of snow and below freezing temperatures. The Brighton bus services are as precarious as the pavements, and you are the only one that actually made it into the office. Time to make the same excuse as everyone else, it’s a “snow day”!
But don’t hide at home. Instead, head to your nearest cosy café or pub with wifi and work from there. No excuse not to be online, Social Media is definitely not having a snow day. We provide SEO Training, Email Marketing Training, Google Anlaytics Training and Photoshop Training, in Brighton, Sussex – just some of the skills you could learn to keep you busy when you can’t get out.
Here is a list of my favourite free wifi across the centre of Brighton, from Kemp Town to Hove. They all have a great laid back atmosphere that might make you want to stay for longer than planned.

How to Give Criticism
Even assertive people find it difficult to receive criticism. If you are the person giving the criticism you need to be aware of this and that the natural reaction of most people being criticised is to be defensive.
However direct, open and specific feedback is the only way to help people to improve. You are not doing them any favours if you don’t point out what they are doing wrong. Just remember that the intention is to get them to change – not to humiliate them.
- First choose the right place: criticising someone in front of others only adds to their sense of humiliation.
- Next the right time: it’s best to tackle things as soon as possible – if you let them build up it just gets worse – but make sure the time is appropriate (not when you are tired/others are around).
- Try to say something good alongside the criticism (PNP sandwich: say something positive: ‘I appreciate the way that you…’, then negative and then end on a positive note: ‘I’m glad that we’ve been able to….’
- Remember to criticise the behaviour not the person. So instead of saying that someone is lazy or unreliable say what they have actually done: ‘You’ve been late twice this week.’
- Give them chance to respond and repeat what they have said if they are justifying their actions: ‘You’re saying that you weren’t aware that…’ Ask for their suggestions for improvement.
- Check that your tone of voice/body language isn’t aggressive and make sure that you have their agreement before you leave the matter.
- If the person listens to you, and accepts your point, talk about the positive consequences so that you end on an optimistic note. Decide what you will do if the improvements don’t happen (but you don’t have to tell them).

If you’re online, watch TV or have kids, you’ve probably heard of Justin Bieber, and hear it way more often than you’d like.
You can hardly boot up without Justin Bieber appearing somewhere on your screen. For some reason (probably because he’s cute!) he has been the victim of many an Internet hoax. The Internet played an enormous part in Justin’s fame from the outset. Bieber, whose mother began posting home-made videos of him singing on the Internet when he was just 12, was stumbled upon by marketing executive Scooter Braun on YouTube who asked him to make a demo. He subsequently signed a deal with island records and was soon plastered all over the Internet thanks initially to YouTube.
Because of his pull and the amount of times he is searched for on the Internet he is now the subject of many an Internet hoax. Recently the Justin Bieber Death Hoax and the Justin Beiber Korea Tour Hoax. these hoaxes fuel the news and his name spreads like a virus through the networks.

Well some have heard enough, they want to scrub their Internet experience clean of Justin Bieber. As a result one One FireFox developer named Greg Leuch has created a FireFox add-on to help achieve this goal, at least in Internet searching and browsing.
The extension is called Shaved Bieber and it will censor any mention of Bieber from your search. Justin is not the only thing that you can obliterate, a bookmarklet is also available to allow custom censoring of pages.
The tool even helps hide images of Justin Bieber so you don’t have to look at his cute face any more.

Best iPhone apps for Project Managers
The other month I got my very first smartphone, in the form of Apple’s iPhone! I first really didn’t know where to start when it came to picking the best and most useful apps, so I asked my friends on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter for help. Thanks to everyone who contributed. Where there were rival apps I’ve chosen the one that was cheaper. Hope it’s useful – let me know if I’ve missed something.
