VBScript, Microsoft's Visual Basic Scripting Edition, is a scaled-down version of Visual Basic. While it doesn't offer the functionality of Visual Basic, VBScript does provide a powerful, easy-to-learn tool that can be used to add interaction to Web pages.

VB Script Training Course Content

1.    Simple client side VBScript using built in objects (Dialog Boxes etc.)

2.    Short introduction to CSS and the Internet Explorer Document Object Model with reference to elements used in 1 above (forms in particular)

3.    Exercise: Using VBScript to manipulate the CSS properties and elements of the DOM

4.    Review/Q and A: VBScript language:

• Variables
• Data Types
• Arrays
• Loops
• Decision making constructs
• Syntax (dot notation)
• Events
• Methods
• Properties
• Objects

5. Client side ActiveX using the Tabular Data Control

6. Simple server side VBScript in ASP(Response.Request,Session and Application objects)

• Acting on information received from the user
• Returning information to the user

7. Introduction to COM using ADO

• Connection object
• Recordset object
• Simple SQL
• Creating recordsets based on user input
• Returning recordsets to the user
• As HTML
• As collections

8. Review/Q and A: VBScript language:

• Objects properties and methods revisited (to include concepts of COM and encapsulation)
• Collections

9. Extras based on class preference

• More on server side built in objects - the filesystem object
• More on string manipulation - regular expressions
• Custom object creation (Classes)
• Supervised individual projects

VB Script Course Prerequisites

This VB Script training course assumes a reasonable working knowledge of HTML and the Internet; and some basic experience in general programming. Experience in programming VB is desirable but not essential.
