Distractions are the bane of a working existence, whether it be a telephone call or an un-planned meeting, there always seems to be something to take your mind away from your work. The trick is to try and rid your office and your mind of all distractions, make your working environment properly suited for you to be able to work in peace.
If you have a secretary then it is more than worthwhile telling her not to let anyone in or pass on any phone calls. If you do not have a secretary then try to arrange it so that you are only called or disturbed at certain hours.
The main reasons that we get distracted however, is because we want to be distracted. It is you who makes the decision, whether it seems out of your control or not, to be distracted. The way to not be distracted is to be in the right mind set and fully focused on the task at hand. You can make all the changes you want to your office but if you’re not in the right frame of mind you’ll soon find yourself distracted once again.
