This is the third post of several free videos from Silicon Beach Training’s recent Social Media course, which runs regularly in Brighton along with various other courses such as Photoshop for Web Training, Blogging Training and SEO Training in Brighton, Sussex.
In the introduction to our last Social Media Training session, Heather Buckley speaks to the delegates about how consumers are changing; when we want information we “Google it”. She explains that old-fashioned modes of advertising do not work anymore and that business marketing must take this into account – marketers must get social and be part of the crowd.
Heather takes a personal example (I’m sure most of us have one of these, beyond the commonly cited Nestle fiasco); she recently bought a product from Crazy Cameras because they were the cheapest but ended up being ripped off. Had she done what many consumers now do, and looked their brand up on Google (or even Twitter) she would have thought twice…
For example, click the images below for a Twitter and general Google search for Crazy Cameras
Consumers will no longer be talked at, they instead expect you to be accountable and they expect to be able to come to you. Business marketing must reflect this; not only should you be using social media, but you should be using it to join the online community. If you’re not part of the online conversation around your brand and industry, that doesn’t mean it’ll stop and wait for you.
