Making a text link on your Web Page

Part 5.3: Making a text link on your Web Page

Choose a piece of text in the main content of your web page that you wish to use as a link.  For example if you describe a product you are selling ‘Product ABC’ for example, you may want to make the text ‘Product ABC’ into a link that when clicked takes you a page containing more detailed information about that product, ‘product.html’ for example. All this is covered in our comprehensive Dreamweaver training course in Brighton, Sussex.

Again, don’t worry if the ‘product.html’ page does not yet exist, we can make it later on.

1: Using the mouse, select the words you want to make into a link.

2: Select the ‘HTML’ button in the ‘Properties’ panel at the bottom of the main Dreamweaver window.  You will see a field named ‘Link’, enter the address that you want to link to in here.

For example, if you want to link to the ‘product.html’ page within your own site, enter ‘product.html’.  Note that this is a relative link used for linking to pages within your own site.

If you want to link to a different site such as siliconbeachtraining.co.uk you must enter an absolute link ‘http://www.siliconbeachtraining.co.uk’.

3: When you have entered the link, press ‘Enter’.  The text you chose to use as a link will now display as an underlined clickable link.

As always, save, publish and test your page to make sure everything is as you want it.
