One of the simplest ways to get the average of a group of numbers or cells is to use the “AVERAGE” function.
This works the same way as the SUM function. For example, to calculate the average of cells C2 to C5 you woulsd type “=AVERAGE(C2:C5)” and then press enter:
You can also do this by using the AutoSum function we looked at earlier. In order to do this you first need to select a blank cell. Now, click on the downward arrow next to the AutoSum button in the ribbon. Select the “Average” option near the top of the list:
When you have done this you will see that =average() appears in the selected cell. All you need do now is to highlight with the mouse which cells you want to include in your equation.
