“Colour” Photography Competition Judges

We’re pleased to announce that Brighton-based photographer, teacher and writer Kevin Meredith and fellow Brighton-based photographer / Wired Sussex‘s Community Manager Andy Keetch will be the two judges for this photography competition.

Kevin Meredith – also known to his Twitter and Flickr friends as “lomokev” – is a successful photographer, teacher, writer and author of Hot Shots, the best selling instructional photographic book. He spoke at the PDN Photographers Virtual Trade Show in 2009 with moo.com on how to promote your self online. He also speaks regularly about photography, his work, social media and the use of film in the digital age. Kevin’s work has featured in a range of publications including Photo Pro Magazine, DSLR user magazine, Olympus User Magazine, Russian Esquire, Sonntagszeitung, and the BBC news website. Andy Keetch is well-known to many in and around Brighton under his “special noodles” alias. He’s a passionate photographer with regular updates to his Flickr account. In addition, Andy is Community Manager at Wired Sussex, where he actively networks and meets with those in the area’s Digital Media industry. Andy has worked extensively in online PR and you can find out more about his Social Media credentials on LinkedIn or follow his updates Twitter.

“Colour” Photography Competition Prizes

The photographer of the winning image will receive a free place on a Freelance Photojournalism Course in Brighton this December, run in partnership with ‘Brighton Journalist Works’ – the journalism training company based at The Argus, Brighton’s regional daily newspaper, and University of Sussex. The tutor, Andrew Hasson, is a professional freelance photographer with more than 25 years experience. His images are used in The Times, The Guardian and every other national newspaper, as well as magazines as diverse as Country Life and Take a Break. He has worked with the BBC, Channel 4 and Five, producing publicity pictures for listings, magazines and DVD covers. The prize is for the training course only and winners will be responsible for any travel or accommodation costs incurred. All entrants are also invited to attend a taster free journalism workshop in Brighton.

How to Enter the Photography Competition

If you have a Flickr account you can add your photo directly to the competition’s Flickr group.
You can email your entries to photocomp@siliconbeachtraining.co.uk with “Colour” as the subject of the email. Attachments should be no larger than 3MB.
For email entries: the file name should state the title of the image and the photographer, e.g. Heather Buckley’s image above could be named as “brighton-fringe-heather-buckley“, and the email message should also state the photographer’s full name.
A maximum of two photograph entries per entrant will be accepted.

Whether you’re an aspiring photographer or have a photographer who works for your business, enter Silicon Beach Training’s photography competition to win a free training course. “My Home Town” Photography Competition Judges

We are pleased to announce that Brighton-based photographers Pete Barr Watson and Miss Aniela will be judging the competition.

Pete Barr Watson is a local photographic talent from a Flash design and development background, Pete has had work published in a number of books and magazines. He has been a jury member of the Prix Ars Electronica and is a long-standing judge for the Flash Film Festival. He’s also a member photographer of respected photo agency Magnesium which was founded in Tokyo in 2009; member photographers are well-connected, cover the globe and embrace the very highest standards in photography from fine art to fashion/editorial to reportage. Self Portrait by Miss Aniela

Fine art photographer Miss Aniela – the screen name for Natalie Dybisz – is a local Flickr celebrity who rose to fame by promoting her work online. She is evidence of the power an artist can wield when using social media and the Internet to promote themself – as we discussed in our blog post on why women rule social media. In her own words, she is “a shining example of an artist who has used the internet to make a start in photography” – see her blog entry on successful social media for photographers. You can view Miss Aniela’s work on her Flickr account, or follow her on Twitter.

If you are a budding photographer – or have one working in your business – Miss Aniela is a perfect example of why should enter our competition! Kick start your online exposure to becoming a social media whiz kid (you could even claim a Social Media Training course as your prize to get you on your way!).

Twitter Competition – A Fairytale Winner!

Nadine was delighted to win our Twitter Re-Tweet competition!

At the end of last year we had a fantastic response to our Twitter Re-Tweet competition – the prize was a free place on any of our public training courses.

Our lucky winner was Nadine Burzler (@NadineBurzler) who works at Cactus Language Worldwide.

Nadine was delighted to win the competition and has chosen a free place on our 2-day Dreamweaver course as her prize. She also chose to extend this to come on the whole Web Design Week package, which includes our Web Design training and Web Graphics Photoshop Course.

When she told us why, we realised that there couldn’t have been a more worthy winner…

Nadine has been planning to move to Mexico to live with her boyfriend, and was actually in Mexico visiting him when she was chosen at random as our winner.

Nadine had been planning for a while to arrange some Web Design training in Brighton, Sussex, so that she could still earn a living once she’s moved abroad. She told how she felt when she had won…

“I was ecstatic and so happy that life was giving me the tools to fulfill my dreams… little did I know 2-3 months ago what I wanted to do or how I was going to make a living in Mexico of all places and now, thanks to re-tweeting, twitter and SBT I will be taking a one-week course and embark on a journey of independence, learning how to create my own e-commerce website and generate an income from home, being with the man I love.”

We’re looking forward to seeing Nadine for her training in March – and we’re really happy this will help her so much with her plans!
