Apple, Microsoft, and Google have all recently announced great integrations with Flickr. If you’ve spent ages building up a library of great photos in Flickr you can now link them to Google Buzz, Google Maps, Bing Streetside, iPhoto and Aperture
If you need help with editing your images before you upload them you should check out our Photoshop courses for all levels including a Photoshop course for Advanced users here in Brighton. We also run a comprehensive Social Media training in Brighton, Sussex, to help you make the most of these platforms.
This post covers how to link your Flickr account to Google Buzz, Google Maps, Bing Streetside, iPhoto and Aperture…
You can set Google Buzz to post a message and an image every time you upload to your Flickr account:
1. After your profile name there is a link which says the number of connected sites you have – click on this
2. Find the Flickr button and click ADD
3. I found the most reliable thing to put in this field is the whole url to your flickr account ie: http://www.flickr.com/photos/heatherbuckley/
As for Google, they have released two great integrations: the first is with Google Maps, which browses nearby Flickr photos in the street view. You will need to change your Flickr permissions to Creative Commons.
get flickr slider on your google profile
You can also set your Google profile to show a slider with all your latest Flickr updates.
1. Open your Google Profile and click Edit Profile
2. Scroll down to Add Links
3. Fill in your complete Flickr url eg: http://www.flickr.com/photos/heatherbuckley/
4. Click Save
It will look like this:
![]()
Unfortunately the amazing New Bing Maps Application: Streetside Photos is currently only available in the US but hopefully it will be rolled out soon. This application pulls photos from Flickr, associates them with Bing Maps Streetside photos and then overlays them by stretching the photo to fit as an overlay. If you need help with editing your images you should check out our Photoshop Training and advanced Photoshop course here in Brighton
If you want your Flickr images to show you need to change the licence settings of your images to Creative Commons. As a photographer you may not like this idea, however the future is Social with a capital “S” and I upload images that are no more than 500 pixels and 72 dpi so anyone nicking my images without credit can only use them on the web. For me he benefits of having people use your images with a credit outweigh the problems caused by those who do not credit you but that’s a personal opinion. Those just beginning to learn about Social Media and what it can do for your business might find our Social Media Training course useful.
Below is an exampl of how Bing Streetside works with Google Maps:
If you use iPhoto but need the tools in Aperture, you can now upload directly to Flickr from both. When you’re ready to share your photos, you can send them to Flickr or Facebook with a couple of clicks.
Bing, course, flickr, flickr integration, flickr update, google, Google Buzz, google profile, images, integrate flickr and buzz, microsoft bing, social media course, social media for business, social media marketing, Social Media Training, Social Media Training sussex, streetside photos, sussex, training
