Silicon Beach Start-up Competition
Silicon Beach is proud to announce our brand new Start-up Competition in conjunction with Crunch Accounting, Midnight Communications and Clear Business Development.
One start-up will win a top prize made up of the essentials for running a successful new business – Accounting, PR and Marketing, Strategy Consultation and Training.
This is an amazing opportunity to drive you business forward.
Our recent survey into the state of the training industry has thrown up some very interesting results.
It looks like businesses are beginning to banish their recession blues by considering the investment into their future that training can provide.
Nearly 50% of respondents said they would be booking more training in the next 2 years than they do currently and just 5% said they'd book less!
That's great news for us here at Silicon Beach but it's also great news for UK business on the whole. It means some of the biggest and best in British industry (many of whom are our clients) will be investing in training to upskill and enhance their workforce and bring a boost to the economy.
Now would be a great time to become a trainer too! Our Train the Trainer Course can help you with that.
We received 644 responses to our survey and there were some other interesting results, so we're going to take a look at some of the key ones.
Thank you to everyone who entered our Movement themed photo competition. It was a huge success with perhaps the highest standard of entries we've ever had to our Flickr group!
So here is our winner and runners up in video format or scroll down to see them without the musical accompaniment!
We had some great entries from near and afar but there could only be one winner so we'll let Jean-Luc tell you about his experience deciding who should get our prize of a 2-day course (anything from Photoshop workshops to Social Media Training) and a day in Brighton Media Centre's professional studio.
This competition is now closed! Please check back on Friday 25th January when we will announce the winners.
Win a full day in the Brighton Media Centre Studio to use as you like, a 2-day Photoshop course at Silicon Beach to learn how to edit your images (alternative courses will be offered to those who already know photoshop) and a print of your choice to show off the finished product. All you need to supply is your own camera, tripod and subject! It's a fantastic prize for both professional and amateur photographers alike. More details of the grand prize can be found below, and there are also prizes for the top 4 runners up.
The 'Movement' theme allows you to be as creative as possible, with licence to interpret 'movement' as you like - we're expecting some really interesting images as a result.
Judging the competition is local photographer Jean-Luc Brouard - a favourite here at Silicon Beach and popular in the Brighton Photography community. Read on to find out how to enter, but make sure you read the terms & conditions first.
What is the Theme of the Photography Competition?
The theme is 'Movement', which is deliberately open to interpretation. It could be the movement of the subject or the camera, it could be a subject known for its movement (or lack of) or any idea at all that you have related to movement and photography.
How do I Enter the Movement Photography Competition?
It's incredibly easy to enter the competition, simply upload your entry to our dedicated Flickr group. If you don't have an account just enter in the basic information to set one up, but make sure you use your real contact details or we won't be able to let you know if you've won.
You can only enter one image, so think carefully before you upload because you only get one chance.
We would prefer it if you entered photographs taken specifically for the competition itself.
What do I Win?
As well as a fantastic complete photography experience for the grand prize we also have some prizes for the runners up. View the full details below.

They are also required to pay their own travel and accommodation costs if required.
The top 4 runners-up will receive an unframed high quality full colour print of their entry.
Who is Judging the 'Movement' Photo Competition?
After heading overseas to Los Angeles for our last competition judge, we decided to stay local this time and ask one of our favourite Brighton photographers - Jean-Luc Brouard.
"Based in Brighton Jean-Luc provides images for a range of clients in the areas of Portraiture, Fashion and Still life.
More than happy to work in a studio his true love is location based work, where his willingness to go almost anywhere combined with a passion for controlled lighting means nowhere is out of bounds when it comes to getting the right shot."
When does the 'Movement' Photography Competition End?
The competition is now open, and runs until Friday 18th January at 5pm GMT.
Judging will then commence until Friday 25th January, and we will announce the winner shortly afterwards.
Please make sure you are contactable around that time, or let us know in advance if you aren't. If we cannot contact the winner within 48 hours of the judge's decision, the prize will move on to the second place entry.
This competition is now closed! View the winning entry and our top 10 snaps.
Win a 2-day Photoshop Workshop in Brighton worth over £500 by entering your top summer themed photo to our Facebook Summer Photography Competition.
As we've only had one week of summer this year, we thought it would be a great time to ask you all to show off your best summer photos! Interpret the theme as you like, enter your summer holiday snaps or show off just how wet it's been in the UK!
Summer Photography Competition
We've purposely chosen a broad 'Summer' theme for this competition so that you can get creative. We don't just want pictures of ice cream on the beach (although those are welcome!) we want you to show off what summer means to you in a photo.
Think back to your childhood, think back to a time when summer meant sunshine and not flooding, think of exotic summer holidays and British staycations: whatever springs to mind when you think of summer.
To enter, you simply have to visit the Silicon Beach Training Facebook Page and click on 'Photo Competition' or go straight to the Entry Form! Remember that you must like our page before you can enter.
The winner is the photo with the most votes on our Facebook competition, but there will also be some honourable mentions for our favourite entries. We will be on the look out for anyone who tries to trick the system with fake votes so don't try anything sneaky!
The competition ends on the 27th October but we recommend you get your entry in early to maximise the number of votes. We'll be promoting the competition but we recommend you do some promotion yourself! If you need any help with social media our Ultimate Guide to Social Media will give you some ideas to start, but our 2-day Social Media workshop is also ideal for photographers who want to increase their presence and build a fanbase.
