Brighton SEO folk that you should follow on Twitter
SEO and Brighton are on the brain at Silicon Beach Training, with our newly revamped SEO Training course running in Brighton today, plus Kelvin Newman of Site Visibility has today announced the date for the next Brighton SEO event.
Today’s list focuses on twitterers with a connection to Brighton; but even if you’re not from the UK, they’re all great people to follow if you’re interested in SEO. If you’re interested in project management, we’ve actually already compiled a list of top PM tweeters; let us know if there are other areas you’d like to see covered.
An easy peasy way to find out if someone is following you back on Twitter…
There are loads of great Twitter apps, many of which we’ve featured in our extensive Twitter tools for marketers resource. But the simplest way to find out if one individual is following you on Twitter is to use doesfollow. I felt this tool needed a little promotion as it’s very handy, but features nowhere on Google search results for terms like “is someone following me back on Twitter”!
If you’re still getting the hang of all things Social Media, then our intensive Social Media Training may be for you.
Mark Zuckerburg blogged last night about the plans to rollback Facebook privacy “updates” in a direct response to user and media concern. Facebook really did make a shameless attempt to stop users opting for high privacy settings and many of us look forward to the new “simplified” privacy settings which are being put out from today – they’re not yet up on my personal or business accounts but you can view CNET’s preview of the changes. The settings are still largely default to public, but it’s far easier to choose what you want to keep private.
Facebook Founder Mark Zuckerburg explain the changes being rolled out today:
Think Social Media and (for many) think kids procrastinating on Twitter and Facebook. But simply put Social Media just names a way of communicating online and what is successful Project Management without effective and efficient communication? If you’re not making use of Social Media and the Real-Time Internet in your Project Management, you really need to be. Because nowadays when you can research any subject and get immediate results on Google, your clients and team members will start to expect the same from your project. If you’re not convinced, see this excellent post by Andrew Filev which compares completing a project with and without Social Media.
Of course Social Media does often mean kids procrastinating on Twitter and Facebook, and if you’re going to use Social Media you definitely need to ensure you do so in the right way, with the right platforms. Read on for our suggestions on why you should be using Social Media and how you can do it.
MicroSites, MiniSites, Campaign Sites…. Do they actually work for SEO?
Our LinkedIn discussion of the month
Learn more about Search Engine Optimisation on our recently revamped SEO Training course.
Microsites can be an excellent way to drive traffic, rank competitive keywords and target niche markets, however many SEOs advise that it’s better to bring content into your main domain. With the increased use of Social Media, many also suggest that time is better invested in building networks and sharing resources on platforms such as Facebook and Twitter – a very different kind of online marketing (see this great blog on why you should be wary of using Facebook Pages like MicroSites).
At Silicon Beach Training we used to have microsites but we brought them all into our main site, with much content now in our Free Resources section. This was under the advice of SEO companies. However, we did lose a lot of traffic and many SEOs are now suggesting we should create microsites!… Confused, Heather posed the question “Should I use MicroSites” to her LinkedIn network; what follows are the helpful responses.

Silicon Beach Training offer PRINCE2 training courses in Birmingham and Brighton.
I discovered this PRINCE2 iPhone app recently when compiling a list of the best iPhone apps for Project Managers over at Business Computing World and just had to share it! PRINCE2 Snakes and Ladders allows you to play on your own or with others via Bluetooth, with questions on each turn allowing you to go up ladders or avoid going down snakes.
You may have already have taken our online PRINCE2 quiz put together by Colin, which goes some way towards breaking down PRINCE2 and helping you revise. This app also isn’t cheap at £4.99. But for revising PRINCE2 on the go I don’t think this app can be beat!
