In case you haven’t noticed, Apple launched its much anticipated iPad this week. But what’s all the fuss about? It’s not available until March in the UK anyway. And let’s not forget the multiple faults. Basically, why should we care? And why am I creating yet another blog post to add to this mania?
Well, regardless of whether you like – or care about – this slick 10-inch-flat-screen-touch-screen-tablet-computer, the hyped inauguration of the iPad marks the start of a shift in the way we use the internet, and of course social media. Specifically, portability will change the very place the internet has in our lives; so here are a few things businesses should begin to bear in mind when presenting themselves in this emerging age…
1. Get visual
Some say touch-screen is the future of computing for Apple. So what would you rather point your finger at: a thin line of text or a big bold picture? Whatever you think about touch-screen computing, there’s no questioning the importance of visual content, with Google placing more images in its search engine results. The internet is becoming a visual place; use videos and images to improve your site traffic.
2. Target your local market
The tablet computer will certainly come into its own in public places such as cafes and trains. Google has already launched a local search for mobile phones. Okay so we’re not all poking away at our mobile touch-screen tablets just yet, but in the meantime content with a local bias will certainly improve traffic, appeal to a certain audience and keep them coming back.
3. Don’t undervalue digital content
Digital content is becoming something people are willing to invest in, as Apple’s new iBookstore and Rupert Murdoch’s plan to charge for news suggest. This is one to keep your eye on for the future: free content is great to attract an audience and gain their loyalty, but for something unique, don’t neglect the online marketplace.
4. Maintain your online presence
Mobile computers mean than people can browse anywhere – even in the kitchen! With savvier and more frequent internet use, people will want something fresh and compelling; creating an online presence and maintaining it with social media cannot be neglected.
5. Have a social media strategy
When using the internet for business rather than pleasure, kitchen browsing must be limited before we all go crazy! Factor maintaining your online presence into your working day and don’t overdo it – just be consistent by setting out a clear social media strategy for your business.
The iPad isn’t going to change the way businesses are already starting to use social media – it just indicates the growing importance of this new marketing strategy.

Lots of of bloggers are not very happy with the new iPad.There was 2 much hoopla about it and lots of blogers got disapointed.Quite frankly, I actually see some of the cool potential of this gizmo. Third-party applications for working with tunes, games, papers and magazines and books, all kinds of good stuff, but IMHO they just didn’t really sell it properly (excluding the books). It smells rather incomplete

Apple Mac Keyboard # hashtag – where is it? « Silicon Beach Training Blog says:
[...] It’s really annoying that many Apple keyboards don’t have a # hashtag. This is especially annoying when you tweet a lot and want to emphasize or tag your post with a hash tag using a Mac. If you are like me and are pretty tired of googling it every time you need to find it, or cutting and pasting an existing hash tag, I suggest using a post-it note on your monitor with the following written on it. If you are a WordPress blogger then save yourself loads of time and check out our WordPress keyboard shortcuts, or you may like to read our apple ipad 5 tips for social media. [...]
